Jane Rutter was born on 9 June 1819 in Newburn, Northumberland, England and christened 18 July 1819 at St Michael’s & All Angels, Newburn, the seventh child of Joshua Rutter and Jane Jobling.

 

Jane married William Carr (christened 12 April 1818 at St Michael’s, Newburn, the son of Thomas and Jane Carr) in 1838 at St John the Baptist, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland.

 

Jane and William, a coal miner, were the parents of:

 

·        Jane Carr born 30 August 1840 in Newburn and christened 8 November 1840 at St Michael’s, Newburn married Michael Nixon (born in Newburn and christened 9 February 1837 at St Michael’s, Newburn, the son of Robert Nixon and Margaret Chapman) in 1858 at All Saints, Newcastle upon Tyne. Jane and Michael, a coal miner, were the parents of:

 

·        William Nixon born in Newburn about 1863;

·        Margaret Nixon born in Newburn about 1866;

·        Robert Nixon born in Newburn about 1868;

·        Thomas Nixon born in Newburn about 1870; and

·        Frances Nixon born in Throckley New Houses and christened 18 July 1875 at St Michael’s, Newburn.    

 

·        Mary Ann Carr born about 1842 in Benwell married James Dodds in 1862 at St Michael’s, Newburn.

 

Mary Ann and James, a file cutter, were the parents of:

 

·        Elizabeth Ann Dodds born in Newburn about 1862;

·        Thomas Dodds born in Newburn in 1866;

·        Jane Dodds born in Newburn about 1868;

·        Frances Dodds born in Newburn in 1871;

·        Mary Dodds born in Newburn about 1873;

·        Dorothy Dodds born in Newburn in 1875;

·        Margaret Dodds born in Newburn and christened 16 September 1877 at St Michael’s, Newburn; and

·        William Dodds born in Newburn about 1879.              

 

·        Elizabeth Carr born about 1844 in Blaydon, Co. Durham married Joseph Chilton in 1863 at St John the Baptist, Newcastle upon Tyne.

 

Elizabeth and Joseph, a spring maker, were the parents of:

 

·        Elizabeth Ann Chilton born in Newburn and christened 20 March 1864 at St Michael’s, Newburn;

·        Jane Isabella Chilton born in Newburn and christened 15 July 1866 at St Michael’s, Newburn;

·        Mary Chilton born in Newburn and christened 19 July 1868 at St Michael’s, Newburn died at Newburn and was buried at St Michael’s on 15 April 1869;

·        Joseph Chilton born in Newburn and christened 5 June 1870 at St Michael’s, Newburn;

·        Mary Chilton born in Newcastle upon Tyne and christened 21 April 1872 at St Michael’s, Newburn died at Newburn and was buried on 7 October 1872 at St Michael’s, Newburn;

·        William Chilton born in Newburn and christened 21 September 1873 at St Michael’s, Newburn;

·        Margaret Angelina Chilton born in Newburn and christened 21 May 1876 at St Michael’s, Newburn;

·        Edith Mary Chilton born in Newburn and christened 21 April 1878 at St Michael’s, Newburn;

·        George Robert Chilton born in Elswick, Newcastle Upon Tyne and christened at St Cuthbert’s, Stella, Co. Durham on 29 November 1880; and

·        Rutter Carr Chilton born in Elswick, Newcastle Upon Tyne and christened at St Paul’s, Elswick on 23 December 1883.                

 

·        Isabella Carr born in Blaydon, Co. Durham and christened 19 September 1847 at St Cuthbert’s, Stella, Durham;

 

·        Thomas Carr born in Blaydon, Co. Durham and christened 15 February 1850 at St Cuthbert’s, Stella, Durham;

 

·        Frances Carr born in Blaydon and christened 10 September 1852 at St Mary’s, Gateshead married John Stonehouse about 1868 (their marriage has not yet been found).

 

Frances and John were the parents of:

 

·        Thomas John Stonehouse born 27 February 1869 in Walbottle, Northumberland;

·        Rutter Stonehouse born 1876 in Newburn; and

·        William Carr Stonehouse born in 1877 in Newburn. 

 

John Stonehouse died in 1879 in Newburn, aged 29 years.

 

Frances married Edward Laing in 1882 at St John the Baptist, Newcastle Upon Tyne;

 

·        Rutter Carr born in 1857 in Newburn; and

 

·        Sarah Hannah Carr born in Newburn and christened 10 September 1858 at St Michael’s, Newburn died in Newburn and was buried 9 October 1858 at St Michael’s, Newburn, aged 6 weeks.

 

William Carr died in Blaydon prior to the 1891 Census.

 

Jane Carr nee Rutter died in Blaydon, Co. Durham on 18 September 1916, aged 97 years.
